A recent survey reveals that a big share of the Indian populace lacks enough protein in their body. As a result, 71% of Indians have poor muscle health, exposes the survey conducted by InBody. Major global market and opinion research firm, IPSOS was also part of the study that took place in eight Indian cities. Indeed, the huge protein deficiency in India is clearly due to the unbalanced diet most of the Indians follow. Lack of workouts also contributes largely to the feeble muscle growth of the people in the country.

Protein Deficiency in India

The rate of protein deficiency in India is quite alarming. Fine, the study exposes that over 70% of the Indian diet is deficient of protein content. Of course, it is a piece of shocking news for a majority of the Indians, who would like to eat cereal as the most part of their deals. Even the share of pluses and dals Indians takes is less. Though cereal is not totally devoid of protein, it doesn’t contain the basic amino acids, experts say.

Protein Deficiency in India – Citywise Study

As put it above, the respective study took place in eight major Indian cities. They are Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Lucknow. Researchers collected data from 1243 respondents from the different walks of life, aged between 30 to 55 years. The study results show that Lucknow as having the worst condition in terms of muscle growth. 82% of males and 80% of female have poor muscle growth.

Overall, the results from all the cities average that 71% of Indians have poor muscle growth. Also, almost the same number of people lack enough protein content in their body. That simply means it is high time Indians should take better care on their diet and workout habits.

As said above, the favorite dishes of Indians are cereal and pulses, which miss out many essential amino acids. People should increase the intake of animal protein in form of the egg, meat, and milk, warns Dr. Neelanjana Singh, the director of the Indian Dietetic Association. So important is the need for regular workouts for better muscle growth. Protein is indeed the most vital nutrient an individual who works out regularly needs.

The new study results throw light into the worst state of the diet and workout habits of the majority of Indians. Though the cost of protein-rich food is a key factor behind this condition, there are many more people in India, who are still not aware of the importance of protein in the body. Even the healthcare experts are vigilant about iron and calcium deficiency, there is no attempt to make people aware of protein deficiency in India.
